London-based Ukrainian soprano, Inna Husieva, completed the National Opera Studio’s Young Artist Programme in June 2022. The National Opera Studio has helped Inna reach a new standard of interpretation and understanding of the requirements to be a leading artist in the opera profession.

Born in Donetsk, Inna graduated from the Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music in Kyiv in 2014 and then studied at postgraduate level until 2017 with Professor Evdokia Kolesnik. At that time, Inna performed with many Ukrainian chamber music ensembles as well as with the National Opera companies in Kyiv. Her operatic repertoire includes Frasquita Carmen, Pamina The Magic Flute, Cupid Orpheus, title roles in Francesca da Rimini and Iolanta, Marfa The Tsar’s Bride, and Violetta La traviata.

On the concert stage Inna performed Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s Magnificat, Mendelssohn Symphony No. 2 Lobgesang, Dan Forrest Requiem for the Living, and Larry Nickel Requiem for Peace. Inna has toured in the USA, Italy, Canada, Germany, Georgia, Poland and Austria.

Inna was a finalist in the 10th Pietro Antonio Cesti International Baroque Opera Competition in Innsbruck, Austria. She performed at the first baroque opera productions in Ukraine with Open Opera Ukraine and collaborated with outstanding early music specialists – Ilia Korol, Jörg Halubek and Nazar Kozhukhar. As a result of her interest in Baroque repertoire, Inna took part at masterclasses given by Dame Emma Kirkby. Now, Inna’s repertoire includes the Dido Dido and Aeneas and Galatea Acis and Galatea. She has appeared in Il Gusto Barocco Orchestra’s production of Il Muzio Scevola by Amadei Bononcini and Handel. Inna performed the male role of Orazio under the baton of Jörg Halubek. This performance was broadcasted on German radio and was recorded for a CD release later in 2023-2024. Inna has also participated in an outstanding masterclass in London with Scottish operatic tenor Nicky Spence.

During her time at the National Opera Studio, Inna performed as a soloist on the stages of the Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera, English National Opera and Glyndebourne, with the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Robin Ticciati. She has appeared in recital at Wigmore Hall, Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, Buxton International Festival, LSO St. Luke’s, Reform Club, Ognisko Polskie and with the Orchestra of Opera North in Leeds.

In September 2022, Inna won three prizes at the International “DEBUT” Singing Competition in Weikersheim, Germany: the prize for the best contemporary song, an aria from Lucia Ronchetti’s opera Inferno based on Dante Alighieri’s La divina commedia, Silver Victoria [2nd prize], as well as the Orchestra Prize which has led to an engagement with the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg and the Würzburg Philharmonic Orchestra.

She worked as soloist with Opera Rara, Two Moors Festival, Barrandov Opera and sang Haydn’s Creation in St. Alban’s Abbey as well as covering the role of Eurydice from Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice for Opera North this autumn.

In December a fundraising single was released on the Signum Records label. Composed by Roxanna Panufnik, the song “Sleep, Jesus, Sleep” (Спи, Ісусе, спи) is Roxanna’s own arrangement of a traditional Ukrainian Christmas lullaby-style carol of the same name with Inna singing a solo in Ukrainian. This song was broadcasted on BBC3 Radio and Inna was also invited to give a short interview about it to BBC Radio Sussex this winter. The release of this single was covered in the local British papers and social media.

Inna’s next performance will take place in the Tyrolean Festival Erl in April 2023. She will join Scottish Opera as an Emerging Artist from 2023/24.

  • “Ukrainian soprano Inna Husieva proved a touching Ellen Orford, a vein of steel running through her lyricism, in the Embroidery Aria from Britten's Peter Grimes.”

    Planet Hugill

  • “…the Ukrainian soprano Inna Husieva, who delighted the hall as Lucia (from Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor) and Juliette (from Gounod's Roméo et Juliette) with somnambulistic security in all registers and a firework of flawless top tones…”
