Classical Biography

Melinda Hughes graduated with honours from the Maastricht Conservatory of Music, The Netherlands and returned to London to study as a postgraduate at the Royal College of Music. She completed her studies at The Brussels Opera Studio in Belgium then toured Europe for three years as the soloist with the André Rieu Strauss Orchestra, performing Operetta favourites with frequent appearances on Television and Radio.

Operatic roles performed include Aida (Dorset Opera) Tosca, The Countess, Madame Butterfly (Diva Opera, Longborough, London City Opera, Columbia Artists, USA,) Mimi  (Diva), Fiordiligi (London City Opera) Violetta (Central Festival Opera & ECO), Gilda and Frasquita, (ECO), Konstanze (BYO), Donna Anna, (Pavilion), Pamina (Chateau de La Hulpe, Brussels), Lisa (La Sonnambula), Euridice, Frau Fluth, Nedda (I Pagliacci touring Europe) Konstanze (BYO) Ninette (L’Amour pour trois oranges, Opera Studio La Monnaie, Brussels)

Concert work includes Bertha (Eurydice, Weber, Chelsea Opera Group) Rachel (La Juive, Alyth Choral Society) Marzelline (Leonore, COG) Mendelssohn’s Midsummer night’s Dream (Auditorio Nacional, Madrid) Haydn’s Creation, Mozart’s Mass in C minor, Britten’s War Requiem in Norwich Cathedral, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Händel’s Messiah, Cordoba, Spain.

A specialist in Weimar Cabaret Melinda formed her satirical cabaret group Kiss & Tell and has performed at the Metropolitan Room, New York, The holders Festival Barbados, The Al Bustan Festival Beirut, Hay Literary Festival, Crazy Coqs Zedel, Cadogan Hall and at the Assembly Rooms as apart of the Edinburgh Fringe. Her CD ‘Smoke and Noise’ featuring songs by Mischa Spoliansky received fantastic reviews both in the UK and the US. She has appeared on BBC Radio 3 In tune three times and on a programme about Weimar Cabaret on BBC Radio 4 with Barry Humphries.

Cabaret Biography

Classically trained Melinda Hughes is a Weimar Cabaret specialist and a successful satirical cabaret performer. She has performed with her co-writer Jeremy Limb at numerous International Festivals. Her CD Smoke and Noise (Nimbus) won critical acclaim in The US and UK leading her to appear on BBC Radio 3 and on BBC Radio 4 with Barry Humphries.

A graduate of The Royal College of Music and Maastricht Conservatoire, Melinda toured Europe for four years as the soloist to the famous violinist Andre Rieu, frequently appearing on radio and television.  Melinda has sung many lead operatic roles such as Aida, Tosca, The Countess (Marriage of Figaro), Fiordiligi (Così fan Tutte) and Madame Butterfly working and touring in more than forty countries.

Melinda’s satirical cabaret has taken her to The Metropolitan Room in New York, Holders Festival Barbados and Government House, Bermuda, as well as The Edinburgh Festival and sell out shows at Crazy Coqs, Zedel and The Pheasantry London. Described by Vanity Fair as scandalous and timely, her satirical company Kiss & Tell Cabaret write and perform up-to-the minute songs on global trends and politics and are very much in demand.
