Soprano Kim Sheehan, described by Opera Now as “sporting a super voice and blissfully funny acting skills” has sung many of the roles in the coloratura repertoire in Germany, Switzerland, the UK and her home country of Ireland. She has worked with such established companies as the Royal Opera House, Zürich Opera House, Opera North, Grange Park Opera, Garsington Festival Opera, NI Opera and Wexford Festival.
Kim’s roles include Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos) at Theater Winterthur; Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute) at Garsington Festival Opera and Volkstheater Rostock; Madeleine (Le Postillon de Lonjumeau) & Juliette (Roméo et Juliette) at Opera de Baugé; Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) at Bad Lauchstädt; Giulietta (I Capuleti e I Montecchi) at Theater Gera & Altenburg; Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel) at NI Opera.
She has received a host of excellent reviews from around Europe (see full list here) including her “outstanding singing” at Theater Winterthur with a “disarmingly honest” (Der Landbote) interpretation of Zerbinetta, an “utterly brilliant” (Arts Desk) and “truly star-blazing” (Osterländer Volkszeitung) Königin der Nacht with a voice that “sets the pulse racing” (Financial Times) and a “superb” Madeleine that shone “ like the many fires of a diamond.” (Forum Opera)
Her training began in Ireland where she graduated with distinction and the Gold Medal from DIT Conservatory of Music in Dublin before taking up a scholarship at the Royal College of Music & Benjamin Britten International Opera School, London. From there Kim continued on to the prestigious International Opera Studio at Zürich Opera House. Throughout her studies she was sponsored by the Arts Council of Ireland.
Kim sang Diana in the world premiere of Jonathan Dove’s ballet Diana and Acteon at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; a part of Metamorphosis: Titian 2012, a grand collaboration between the Royal Opera, Royal Ballet and the National Gallery. The New York Times described her as simply ‘excellent.’
