Hailing from the South Wales Valleys, Emyr trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. And in 2017/18 was a Young Artist at the National Opera Studio, London.
Operatic roles include Collatinus/The Rape of Lucretia, Minskman/Flight, Papageno/The Magic Flute, Don Alfonso/Così fan Tutte, Sid/ Albert Herring, Forester/Cunning Little Vixen, Figaro/Le nozze di Figaro, all for RWCMD where he finished his studies performing the title role in Verdi’s Falstaff conducted by Carlo Rizzi and directed by Martin Constantine. Other performances have included Contractor & Ensemble/Gair ar Gnawd [Word on Flesh] and cover Nana & Starkey/Peter Pan (Welsh National Opera), for St Endellion Festival Benoit & Alcindoro/La bohème, Schelkalov & Boyar Khruschov/Boris Godunov, Henry Cuffe/ Gloriana, and Mr Flint/Billy Budd, Independent Opera as Farmer & Ensemble in Simplicius Simplicissimus, and Cadmus/Semele, Sacristan/Tosca for Mid Wales Opera. In summer 2018, he went to the Mediterranean Opera Studio Festival in Sicily, performing the roles of Figaro/Le Nozze di Figaro, and Bonzo/Madama Butterfly. In 2019 he made his role debut as Leporello/Don Giovanni for Longborough Festival Opera, and both role and house debut for Opera North as Colline/La bohème. He returns to both in 2020; Cover Figaro/The Marriage of Figaro for Opera North, and for another role debut as Dulcamara/The Elixir Of Love for Longborough Festival Opera. In the summer of 2021 he sang the role of Colline for Grange Park Opera where he will return in 2022 to sing Ludovico in Verdi’s Otello. In the 2021-22 season he sings Talpa in Puccini’s Il Tabarro and Colline for Mid Wales Opera.
Awards have included Best Actor at the 2013 Fresh Film Awards, before the RWCMD HRH Prince of Wales Scholarship, Dame Shirley Bassey Vocal Award, David and Philippa Seligman Award, Bruce Millar Gullivar Opera Award 2015, MOCSA Young Welsh Singer of the Year 2015, Worshipful Company of Musicians Silver Medal, and the 2016 RWCMD Ian Stoutzker Prize.
