Dawid was born in Johannesburg and he moved to the UK in 2001 to further his studies at the Royal College of Music in London. Studying with Ryland Davies since he arrived in the UK, Dawid subsequently attended the National Opera Studio and received a coveted position on the Royal Opera House Jette Parker Young Artist Programme which commenced in 2009. He also represented South Africa in the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition in 2009.
Operatic roles include the title role in Owen Wingrave and Mr. Gedge Albert Herring for Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, Masetto Don Giovanni for The Royal Opera, Covent Garden, Ned Keene Peter Grimes for Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Guglielmo Cosi fan Tutte for Opera Holland Park, Il Conte Almaviva Le Nozze di Figaro and Moralès Carmen for Glyndebourne Touring Opera, , Dr. Falke Die Fledermaus for Bolshoi Opera in Moscow, Creonte in Haydn’s L’animo del filosofo in Russia and Adonis Venus and Adonis for Transition Opera at Wilton’s Music Hall, Belcore L’elisir d’amore for Festival Opera in New Zeeland. At the Royal Opera House Covent Garden his roles include Flemish Deputy Don Carlo, The Steersman Tristan und Isolde, Potapych The Gambler, Marullo Rigoletto, 2nd Prisoner Fidelio, Moralès Carmen (filmed and broadcast in 3D), Surintendant des Plaisirs Cendrillon(filmed for DVD and broadcast) as well as covering the roles of Forester Cunning Little Vixen, Mr. Astley The Gambler, Malatesta Don Pasquale, Ned Keene Peter Grimes and Figaro Il barbiere di Siviglia. Dawid sang Leuthold in Rossini’s Guillaume Tell at the Santa Cecilia in Rome with Maestro Pappano, recorded live for EMI.
Future performances include the role of Il Conte Almaviva, Le Nozze di Figaro for English Touring Opera.
